This guy drove a Porsche Boxster in a 1960s F1 car

It’s always fascinating to see professionalism, to see the possibility of building something from scratch. It’s a mix of art and science, with a sprinkling of broad-eyed ambition, and that’s all wrapped up in the project in the video above. Wesley Kagan has uploaded a video with his wild build – a 60s F1 car that borrows a lot from a Porsche Boxster.

In the video, Kagan discusses his enjoyment of F1 cars from the sixties, such as the Lotus 49. Using Forza Motorsport, he mocked a shell and set out to live on a design that generally matches that of a vintage open bike. The project began with the sourcing of a used Boxster – the cheapest running model in the US. He picked one up for $ 2,500 which provided him with a running engine, a propulsion, brakes, a steering rack and other small components he needed. It also has a pushrod suspension.

After six months, with the first track day of the car approaching, he still had quite a bit to finish. He did not get it done, and put the last touches on the car at the track, such as dealing with a crank pressure problem that appeared during a dyno run and repairing the radiator. The video ends with Kagan’s car crossing the track before passing the front directly with gusto, though not much of it with half of the course, at least not yet.

It’s eight months ago that Kagan started the project, and there’s still work to be done. Kagan ends by saying that there could be more content in the future – he has thousands of ideas – along with showing us the F1 car after completion. It’s an ambitious build, although it’s very nice. We can not wait to see the vertical product – and what other creations he then dreams of.
