But a simple family visit to get a haircut claimed both their lives.
Bruno hopes that his family’s grief serves as an important reminder of how easy it can be to sign a Covid-19, no matter how safe you are.
Goes through precautions
In late November, Bruno’s mother, Carol Bruno, came to her apartment with her sister to have her sister cut her hair. Prior to the visit, her sister, who works in her salon, took the Covid-19 exam which returned negative. She was also kept apart for three to four days – the sign the family took meant she was safe to be around.
His mother, on the other hand, did not come out at all during the epidemic.
During the visit, which lasted about 40 minutes, Brunos wore a mask and avoided hugs, Bruno explained. They also confirmed that their mother was sitting next to the windows that she had opened as an extra precaution.
One day after the visit, Bruno’s sister began showing symptoms of Covid-19. The mother and son soon began to feel unwell.
A visit turns into an accident
Carol Bruno, mother, was hospitalized on Thanksgiving Day, but was discharged that week as her condition improved. Two days later, she returned to the hospital where she was fitted with a ventilator.
Later, her husband fell ill.
Mike Bruno also did not go to see his son with his wife and daughter, but began to experience symptoms and was hospitalized about two weeks after Thanksgiving, according to Bruno.
One day after her husband was put on a ventilator, Carol died. Nine days later, two days before Christmas, Mike followed.
After months of caution, the simple choice they make, the choice they make is safe.
“If I had made that sacrifice and, you know, hadn’t spent it, you know, 30-40 minutes with my mom – they’d still be here,” Bruno said.
