These are the jobs and skills that Amazon is looking for in its plans to expand Lord & Taylor of New York City


“For years, New York was just that [Amazon’s] sales and marketing post outside Silicon Valley, “said John Barrett, a partner at ON Partners, a Boston-based technology recruitment company. They now see clearly that there is a big tech pool right in New York City, and that is why the past five years have been significant growth. ”

Amazon’s new strategy called for hiring 1,700 New Yorkers in corporate roles last year, according to ON Partners – which is more local hiring than Google and Facebook combined.

From its current advertisements, a solution architect is the most sought after job in New York, with 225 separate positions. The role goes into both software engineering and business strategy in designing and expanding the company’s products.

The e-commerce giant has in the past paid those positions a median salary of $ 135,000, including bonuses and stock options, at the entry level, according to levels.fyi, a database where more than 30,000 tech workers have reported their salaries.

General software engineers are also in demand for Amazon, with 212 active ads. The company offers about $ 161,000 in total entry-level compensation for those jobs, according to levels.fyi data.

The jobs pay well in part because they are difficult to fill, as described by Ardine Williams, Amazon’s vice president of employee development.

“There was a shortage of software development engineers, solution architects and technical program managers before the pandemic and many of those skills are still in very high demand,” Williams Cheddar said in a TV interview Tuesday.

Amazon also lists about 70 sales and advertising positions, as well as 50 jobs for business development.

Company officials say Amazon has hired 175,000 people nationwide since the start of the pandemic – just slightly less than the Yonkers population. Many of those jobs have gone to warehouse work to meet demand of online shopping.

While the company supported from a plan to eventually hire 25,000 people in Long Island City for their HQ2, thy new plan in Midtown builds on efforts the company made last year to expand its Manhattan workforce. The company leased a 335,000-square-foot space from SL Green to Hudson Yards last year, an office that will open in 2021.
