New York Yankees left-hander James Paxton will have an MRI after feeling some discomfort in his forearm / elbow area, manager Aaron Boone said Thursday after the 10-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Paxton (1-2) started the game, allowing three runs over five innings, while one allowed and four could run, hitting eight. He threw 83 stands.
“For Pax at the moment, hope for the best, that we get good news there and hopefully continue to work to get him good,” Boone said.
Shortstop Gleyber Torres will also undergo an MRI after leaving Thursday’s game with a tight left hamstring, Boone said.
Torres struggled while running the first baseline after hitting a ground in the bottom of the third inning. He was replaced at the top of the fourth by Thairo Estrada, who played second base, while Tyler Wade shot to shortstop.
Torres is playing .231 with one home game and six RBIs this season.
The injuries are the latest for high-profile Yankees players. Earlier Thursday, relief Zack Britton was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a punishable left hamstring.
He teamed up with strikers Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) and Aaron Judge (calf) and infielder DJ LeMahieu (thumb), among influential players on the team to place on the injured 10-day roster. Judge is tied for ninth in the American League with nine home games, while LeMahieu leads the AL in battle with a .411 average.
The Yankees were chased home by the Rays, who took first place in the AL East.
