With Aaron Judge, Giacarlo Stanton, Gliber Torres and DJ Le Maihiu on the injured list, the Yankees need Gary Sanchez to shake up the length of the season.
Judging by the numbers, it didn’t happen.
Sanchez’s disappointing year continued on Friday when he went heatless in five at-bats in a doubleheader sweep of the Yankees’ Mets subway series in the Bronx.
Sંચnchez went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the opener, when he whipped with a filled base in the fourth and two trapped in the sixth. In the second game, Sanchez led the way with a base-filled walk in the third inning, but went 0-for-2 and finished second and third with runners-up and one out in five.
“A little bit of pitch recognition,” Aaron Boone said of Sanchez, who caught the first game and the D.H. in the nightcap. “Go back to where his time is a little off. The ball is not well recognized for making really quality swings. ”
Sanchez is in 6-for-38 (.158) fun and hits .130 (10-for-77) for the season.
Le Maihiu Musik, Pa. Live pitching on Alternate’s site faced Friday, and the Yankees are on track to rejoin.

With Jordi Mercer being promoted from the alternate site on Friday, it didn’t take long for Boone to be put in the starting lineup for the second game of the doubleheader, where he went 1-for-2 with a walk and scored.
The 34-year-old has played 898 major league games and topped 831 shortstops. He was a pirate from 2012 to 2018, spent 2019 with the Tigers and appeared in three games for them this year before parting ways.
Mercer entered the first game of the twins Bill in the fifth and finished ninth.
With LeMahieu on IL and Boone, not wanting to play Hicks in two games in the same day, Luke Voight hit the Serie A for the second and third time this season.
Voight entered the first game with 11 homers and six in his last six games and went 4-for-4. The Yankees took a 2-0 lead in the first inning due to the glove of his soft single off baseman Pete Alonso. His two-out, base-empty double runs from East Clint Frasier’s opposing field home, increasing the lead to 4-0.
In the second game the vote went 0-for-3.
Brett Gardner started the day in a 3-for-24 (.125) funk, but reached the base with a bunt single in the first inning, hit from the pitch in the fourth and moved to sixth in the first game.
