Madrid (AP) – The restoration work on a sculpture in northern Spain eight years before the restoration work has revived the memories of Christ Fresco, who was restored in another Spanish city that mocked as well as ridiculed tourists.
The latest incident concerns a relief sculpture on the exterior of a decorated office fee building in the city of Palancia. What was once a laughing woman’s bust now looks like the head of a cartoon character.
The disfiguration was brought to light by a local artist living near the Artist Fish Building and was assisted by a florist on his street. Antonio Capel posted the photographs before and after on his Facebook page, which elicited a flurry of social media reactions and reporters ’attention.
“I was amazed. How could they have done this?” Capel told the Associated Press on Wednesday. “It must be at least 10 years old, and we can only find out right now.”
He said the 20th-century building belonged to a bank, but a few years ago tenants decided to correct the mistake.
Now, the Spanish media is showing images of people stopping to look at the building and take photos.

The badly restored restoration immediately compared the “Ace Homo” fresco in the northern Spanish city of Borja. A local amateur artist decided to restore the 1930s portrait of Christ in the sanctuary of Mercy Church, but he immediately compared the face he produced in 2012 to that of a monkey.
However, his work turned into a Borja tourist attraction. It remains to be seen whether Palancia will have a similar effect on Job.
A spokesman for Palancia City Hall, who declined to be named after internal proceedings, could not say when or by whom the work was carried out, but said the restoration would likely be carried out by regional authorities.
