The Woodlands Township is experiencing widespread power outages; water safe to drink

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (August 27, 2020) – Residents of The Woodlands are experiencing widespread power outages. Entergy has reported extensive reports in the Southern Montgomery County area as a result of load balancing problems attributed to Hurricane Laura. From 1:40 p.m., there was no estimated time for recovery of power.

The Woodlands Water Agency states that The Woodlands Water Agency’s domestic water system is equipped with backup generators. Even without power, the water supply system remains operational in most circumstances. The water is safe to use and drink. Please note that the telephone system at The Woodlands Water Agency is not operational. Customers with urgent water service issues are asked to contact the response service, which is being checked, at 281-537-4376. Updates to the Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management:

Just got an update from Entergy Texas. The current transmission line problem that caused our power outages has been found and is in the process of being repaired. If this is done tonight, we should be good to go according to them. The power plant in Sabine Pass is fully staffed again and is in the process of being upgraded. Both of these things will help our situation. When we use this type, many sectors come online. Please be patient that these linemen and crews work around the clock.

5.15pm Update: Entergy Update: Outages are expected for the next 3 days. Especially in the heat of the day when demand is high and the roster is unbalanced. Residents are called to prepare for additional outages and preparations in the coming days. Some areas of our province are starting to see power return online. This takes time to do so safely and in a balanced way to prevent damage to the grid.

We have set up a hub for information: http://moco.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/07edf306b95744628567c96417b199f0

3:10 o’clock update: Currently the power outages are spreading. Entergy Texas customers in Conroe, Willis, The Woodlands, Spring, New Caney, and Porter are all out right now. If you are a current Entergy customer, please help by saving energy. We are told that this is not a problem with energy generation, but has to do with the amount of available transmission capacity within the grid that is not affected by Hurricane Laura. When the remaining systems are overloaded, the entire system goes down. Therefore, the brown outs occur. We do not currently know when they will be expected to restore power.

Update: Power outage has spread to additional areas across Montgomery County. Please remember to treat all flashing red lights as a four-way stop. When the lights are completely off, treat the intersection as a four-way stop. Entergy Texas is working to restore the grid, but the load is greater than the transmission options that were not affected by the hurricane. If you have power, please save energy as best you can, then it will help reduce the charge.

Update: Work with the President and CEO of ENTERGY. The power outage in Southern Montgomery County is due to brownouts needed to protect the integrity of the unaffected transmission line. If this line fails – all ENTERGY customers in Texas would be without power. The brownouts will take place until the integrity is restored. This is due to widespread power outages related to Hurricane Laura in deep East Texas. We are currently working on gathering more information, but at this time we do not have an estimated time for power to fully recover. Please treat all flashing red lights as four-way stops. When a signal is completely off, treat it as a four-way stop.

Original: Our office is aware of a major power outage affecting a majority of the Woodlands area. We are currently working with our Entergy and local partners to gather more information and get an estimated amount of time for power to fully recover.
