The Utah hiker slips, falls over 100 feet – and survives

A man wandering in the foothills north of Salt Lake City on Sunday survived more than 100 feet of drowning and was trapped for hours on a cliff after losing his phone in the fall, officials said.

The 29-year-old tourist was walking about a mile from the state capital, near the base of Ansigan Peak, when he slipped, NBC-affiliated KSL reported.

“He missed, went too close to the edge, and wrapped a slide in the bottom of the cliff in a rock mine,” said Mark Bednrick, chief of the Battalion of the Salt Lake City Fire Department.

The man, who was not identified, injured his pelvis and legs in the fall, Said the department.

Images posted by the department showed the hiker bent over another straight drop-of-fun shore.

Unable to move, he stayed there for five hours after losing his phone, the department said. KSL reported that a group of homeless people heard him screaming and called 911.

The video showed rescue workers bringing the man with the harness down the rest of the cliff.
