The Utah Department of Health reported 2,408 new COVID-19 cases, killing 8 people on Saturday


SALT LEEK CITY – As many as 2,408 new test-confirmed cases and eight deaths from Covid-19 have been reported since Saturday as part of the state health department’s release of daily updated coronavirus statistics in Utah.

That brings Utah to a total of 248,970 reported cases and 1,148 coronavirus-related deaths since the epidemic began. In an email, the health department said seven people had died on Saturday while hospitalized at the time:

  • Salt Lake County man between the ages of 65 and 84
  • Salt Lake County man between the ages of 45 and 64
  • Lake County woman aged 45 to 64

A Utah County man over the age of 85 died when he was not hospitalized, officials said.

The Department of Health began providing additional information about the COVID-19 vaccination in Utah on Saturday. On Saturday, the health department said 559 Utahns are currently hospitalized due to Covid-19 and 218 of them are in intensive care. The new case figure comes as 10,101 more Utahns were tested.

In the past week, an average of 2,454 new cases have been reported every day in the state and a percentage of 22.1% positive tests are being recorded.

There is no coronavirus news conference from state leaders scheduled for the weekend. On Thursday, Gov. Gary Herbert announced during a conference that states have lifted their 10 a.m. curfew on the sale of alcohol in bars and restaurants, and the U.T.A.
