Learn the Gosaku story

Find the musician who sits down with a crowd on the outskirts of Akashima village and sit down to listen to his story. You will learn the story of a farmer who stole the armor of a samurai to challenge the bandits who threaten his home. However, after his death, several farming families received the keys to unlock the location of Gosaku’s armor.

Get the keys to the six farmers

To unlock the secret of Gosaku’s Armor, you will need to free six different farms in the Toyotama and Izuhara regions, as several farms in the first region of the game have been attacked since you entered the second act. Each is strongly protected by a variety of Mongolian forces that you must eliminate.

Each farm will also include a number of hostages that you will need to rescue, and attacking head-on can cause them to be killed, so try to kill enemies silently as much as possible or push hostages away before attacking. If the battle begins, look for the shield icon to see who is in danger of being attacked, as it won’t take long before the defenseless target is killed.

Remember that until enemies actually see you, they will not make a move to attack a hostage, as they will be more concerned with finding your location first. Use this to your advantage to separate and remove them. If you find yourself in a situation where enemies start to surround a hostage, use smoke or sticky bombs to disorient and confuse them until they can be shot down.

The list of farms to release includes the following six locations (two in Toyotama where the search begins and four in Izuhara):

  • Iijima Farmstead, located on the eastern edge of Umugi Prefecture, surrounded by two large rivers.
  • Koshimizu Farmstead, located in the central part of Kushi Prefecture, on the eastern edge of a large lake and the site of Masako’s seventh tale.
  • Yagata Farmstead, located in the heart of Kashine Prefecture, between Yagata and the Kashine Forest.
  • Kuta Village, in Ariake Prefecture, east of the Golden Temple, just north of the Kuta grasslands, between two small rivers that feed the farm.
  • Ohama Fishing Village, located on the western shore of Tsutsu Prefecture, past Kunehama Lake and just north of the Kishi grasslands.
  • Aoi Village, also located in Tsutsu Prefecture, in the extreme southwest region, passing the Tsutsu Plains, just north of Kijo Island.

While battles will unfold similarly for each farm, expect harder forces in Toyotama as lower-level enemies will still populate Izuhara, like bandits, so you should have little trouble throwing a few punches.

Find the hill in Akashima

Once the six farmers have collected the six keys, return to Akashima prefecture of the Toyotama region. Look for the large rocky peak east of Fort Ito in Togo’s old rice fields. Along the north side there are a series of stone steps leading to a sealed door.

Defeat the Mongol ambush

When you approach the rock, a large company of Mongol soldiers will ambush you, including a leader, brutes, and other enemies. Try to force a showdown with the leader or heavy hitters first if possible, and then use sticky bombs to disorient melee attackers as you run for the archers, before finishing off the rest.

Unlock Gosaku’s armor

Use the keys to unlock the stone door and enter the small open area. Look over the rocks here to find a place you can climb with your hook, and then continue dragging rocks to the top of the hill.

Find a path with more hook markers on the branches to turn and climb the hill. If you get lost, just follow the chain of candles until you reach the altar where the chest that holds the armor rests.

You will be awarded the upgradeable special gear – Gosaku’s Armor as well as the Gosaku Headgear – harness that can be used in conjunction. Similar to Samurai clan armor, Gosaku’s armor is incredibly tough and provides a great deal of health, but it also increases the speed at which you can stagger enemies and will also grant health by killing enemies while staggered.
