The UK, Germany and France on Monday issued a statement calling recent steps by Iran in relation to its nuclear program “deeply worrying” – such as the future of the 2015 nuclear deal and the role of the US in it.
Even after the Trump administration withdrew the US in 2018 and despite Iran violating it, the three countries participating in the 2015 agreement have been supporting the deal (known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPO). Limits on its activity.

But those efforts suffered another setback this month, when Iran announced it would expand its prosperity and pass legislation banning surveillance by the UN nuclear watchdog.
“Iran’s recent announcement to the IAEA that it intends to install an additional three cascades of advanced centrifuges at a fuel increment plant in Natanz is against the JCPO and is deeply troubling,” the so-called E3 statement said.
The so-called sanctions imposed on the U.S. – the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) – are “incompatible with the JCPO and Iran’s broader nuclear commitments.”
“If Iran is serious about saving space for diplomacy, it should not implement these measures,” the statement said. “Such a move would jeopardize our collaborative efforts to save the JCPoA and compromise the important opportunity to return to diplomacy with the incoming U.S. administration.”

The forthcoming administration refers to a shift in policy towards Iran when President-elect Joe Biden takes office in January.
Biden, as well as members of his incoming administration, have called on the US to re-enter the deal. This is likely to be accompanied by simplification of the “maximum pressure” policy pursued by the Trump administration.
“We think it’s possible and achievable,” Jack Sullivan, Biden’s choice for national security adviser, said at an event in the Wall Street Journal on Monday.
Iran has claimed that it will comply with the JCPOA if the US re-enters in fact.

According to The Guardian, Foreign Minister Javad Zarif recently said that the U.S.P.A. Under its obligations should be executed without preconditions. “He has to show his goodwill, he has to establish his stimulus, then Iran will fully comply with the JCPO.”
The E3 statement said it welcomed Biden’s remarks on the JCPoA and its diplomatic approach to resolving broader concerns with Iran.
