After initially facing criticism, including from his elderly mother, the New York government. Andrew Cuomo changed the course of his Thanksgiving plans.
Cuomo told WAMC radio host Alan Chartok on Monday that his mother, Matilda Cuomo, 89, was planning to travel to Albany with her two daughters.
“My mom is coming and my two girls, the current plan,” Kumo said.
However, the governor warned, “But plans change … I have a lot of work to do between now and Thanksgiving.”
During a subsequent visit and during his early news conference, Cuomo warned New Yorkers that it would be dangerous to organize a Thanksgiving celebration in general.
“Despite this commercialization, this is not the usual Thanksgiving,” Cuomo said during his news conference Monday and told New Yorkers not to buy print ads that print large, familiar gatherings.
Rep. Of New York. Alice Stefanik caught some on Twitter, a clear disagreement calling the governor a “ritongi”.
“Do as I say, do as I do,” said Republican Stephanie. ” Tweeted. “Family for me, but nothing for you.”
On Tuesday, senior adviser Rich Azzopardi told CNN that the governor’s plans had indeed changed.
“Given the current circumstances with Kovid, he’ll have to work through Thanksgiving and he won’t see them,” Azzopardi said.
Kuomo spent a lot of time during his Tuesday conference addressing his family’s sadness and frustration with Thanksgiving, saying he often explained to his mother why it wasn’t safe to travel for the holidays.
“I didn’t want to disappoint my mother,” Kumo said. “Eight or nine years old, she’s thinking, ‘How thankful is he?’
One of his daughters, who lives in Chicago, also planned to visit Thanksgiving, which resulted in a tearful phone call where they discussed how to travel safely during an epidemic, but eventually decided he should stay home.
“It’s hard, but sometimes hard to be smart,” Kumo said.
