The Titans’ defensive end is ahead of Vic Beasley. They haven’t done that yet. And for good reason.
The delay leads to a simple reality of the NFL calendar. On this day, the first day after the trading deadline, every player published by the team must go through the waiver. Thus, instead of Basel becoming a free agent – and in return eligible to collect the remaining બાકી 3.5 million of his base salary as a termination salary – his contract will be exposed to the ability of each other team to call debs on him.
If only one team claims the contract, the Titans will avoid a balance of 85 1.85 million of its base salary.
That doesn’t change the fact that the deal was a big mistake for the Titans. The one-year, .5 9.5 million deal includes a મિ 6 million signing bonus – some of which may have been forfeited based on failure to report to Basel’s timely camp.
Still, the Titans got zero sacks and zero quarterback hits in Beasley’s seven games and now they hope the one-day delay will save them cash and cap 1.85 million.
