Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Sunday that dealing with residents ‘skyrocketing electricity bills is the state legislature’s first priority, and he said customers’ connections will be suspended if they don’t pay. With power running out amid deadly cold temperatures, Texans, who did not have a fixed electric plan, were raising bills because of market costs, some recording their bills in the thousands.
Abbott and the legislature held an emergency meeting on Saturday to help residents find ways to get “skyrocketing” from skyrocketing bills.
As of Sunday afternoon, about 30,000 texts did not have authority. Abbott said he expects power to be restored across the state by Sunday evening.
