The tests of Salvador Perez of the Royals are positive for COVID-19

Royals fans will have to wait a little longer to see long-term endorsement Salvador Perez Back at the Royals University. Salvy is the last player to allow his name to be released after testing positive for coronavirus. Pérez is asymptomatic at the moment, and while he personally emphasized that people should wear their masks, he feels good enough to play (although he can’t, at least for now), according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic.

After missing all of 2019, Pérez, 30, was looking to return to his role as the Royals’ daily catcher. The Royals have five other receivers in their 60-man player group: Nick dini, Cam Gallagher, MJ Meléndez, Sebastian Riveroand Meibrys Viloria. Gallagher and Viloria would think to start game day if Perez doesn’t return on time, though Dini might as well take a look at him after appearing in 20 games for the major league club in 2019.

Pérez is a .266 / .297 / .442 career hitter for eight seasons with the Royals. He is one of the last remaining members of the 2014 and 2015 consecutive pennant winning clubs, along with Alex Gordon and Danny Duffy.
