The court will not hear an appeal of a case seeking to block construction on 145 miles of wall throughout Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas.
The Center for Biological Diversity, Wildlife Defenders and other environmental groups brought the case in January, arguing that the Department of Homeland Security did not have the authority to waive environmental requirements to speed up construction.
“We are disappointed that the Supreme Court does not consider the flagrant abuse of the law by the Trump administration to accelerate the construction of the border wall,” said Jean Su, an attorney with the Center for Biological Diversity, in a statement.
“This administration has mocked the Constitution to build an enormously destructive wall. We will continue to fight these illegal exemptions and will do everything we can to prevent further damage to the beautiful borderlands. ”
The administration has faced multiple demands from environmental groups, who have challenged the wall’s funds and argued that it will damage the habitats of threatened and endangered species.
The $ 3.8 billion reallocation of the Pentagon in February spurred at least three lawsuits, including one by a group of 19 states and the other by the American Civil Liberties Union along with environmental groups.
