The Strokes, Tyler The Creator and Gorillaz confirmed for Splendor in the Grass 2021

Australia’s 20th anniversary edition of Splendor In the Grass is more than a year away, though festival fans have just tasted what’s to come.

Organizers on Monday confirmed that Tyler, The Creator, and The Strokes have signed up for Splendor’s rescheduled dates, now slated for July 23-25, 2021.

In addition, the British virtual band Gorillaz will be at the top of the bill. The Damon Albarn-led project replaces Flume, which was originally booked for the 2020 edition of Splendor, but is not available for new dates in 2021.

It’s sort of like a “Feel Good Inc” development from Splendor producers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco, who tentatively delayed this year’s show three months to October 2020 due to the pandemic. Last month, Ducrou and Piticco admitted that those plans couldn’t work, and the popular three-day festival was delayed a full year.

“We have been monitoring the situation closely for the past few months and although Australia is now moving into the recovery phase, there is still no timeline around the opening of international borders,” said Ducrou and Piticco, co-CEOs. of Secret Sounds, in a statement issued at the time.

As a result, and “with our audience interests front and center,” the message continues, “we must announce rescheduling for 2021 now.”

A bill laden with international and local acts was originally announced for 2020, including Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Midnight Oil (The Makarrata Project), Glass Animals, Denzel Curry, Duke Dumont Live, Violent Soho, Mura Masa, and King Krule.

There is no real clarity on when the travel restrictions will be lifted, although Ducrou and Piticco have said they “intend to rebook” as many artists as possible and have started working on that process.

The rest of the Splendor in the Grass lineup will drop in early 2021. Tickets are available at Moshtix.
