Mortal Shell, the soul-like action RPG game from Cold Symmetry, has changed its closed beta to an open beta and is allowing all players to download it now from the Epic Games Store. The developers turned to Twitter and Discord to explain the decision that it came from unexpectedly high demand after the start of the closed beta. Cold Symmetry was giving away codes on their social channels and by email, but after the vocal community spoke with their interest in trying out the game, the developer decided to change course.
“We heard that many of you were left out and frustrated with the way we handled key distribution,” Cold Symmetry said on Discord. “We have done our best to keep up with requests, but we never expected this level of high demand. Therefore, we have decided to open the beta version of PC early, and it is available right now.”
Mortal Shell was part of the IGN Summer of Gaming and we reveal a new gameplay trailer that has players inhabiting the bodies (see: Mortal Shells) of vanquished warriors and getting their unique stats and abilities.

In our Mortal Shell practice, we said, “Overall, Mortal Shell made an extremely strong first impression, not because of how it evokes the appearance of Dark Souls, but because of how it evokes it and also feeling like something completely new and unique.”
