The second part of Final Fantasy VII Remake is in “full development” according to the project director

The company recently transitioned to working remotely

As you will remember, Final Fantasy VII Remake The staff recently confirmed that production on future episodes of the game is still happening remotely, but the last time we checked in they were still in the “Part 2” planning stages.

Well things have changed. According to an interview with Famitsu this week (via Ryokutya2089 blog and translation by Twitter user aitaikimochi), Part 2 is in full production according to co-director Naoki Hamaguchi, and will be released “as soon as possible.” Co-director Tetsuya Nomura also boasts that the game will be of higher quality than the first part (order high!).

Nomura also had some interesting little things to share, such as the fact that Roche (a type of mini boss) was supposed to have a bigger role in the game and was originally slated to reappear in Chapter 14 somehow; but it was cut because it ruined the serious mood of the scene. It also confirms that if the massage parlor scene were even a little more outrageous, they could have guaranteed a higher rating for the game than “T-for-Teen”.

So are we making bets on when Part 2 will come out? Square Enix has the assets and staff now, but they are also working remotely and in square time. So all of that could even be offset. A couple of years?
