The Samsung Galaxy S21 bears a striking resemblance to the iPhone 12, thanks to some new details about the phone’s bezels and displays.
Bezels may not be the most attractive part of a smartphone, but they still have a big impact on how good the phone looks and the display looks more immersed. That’s why it’s interesting to see this new patent and rumor.
First off, we have a tweet of liqueur Ice universe. He’s discussing the bezel here, and especially the Galaxy S20 where the bottom bezel is significantly more thick than the others than all sides will have the same width.
The three products of the Samsung Galaxy S21 (S30) series are designed with four sides of equal width. Of these, the S21 and S21 + 2D are screens, and the S21 U is a curved screen.October 21, 2020
All three phones in the Galaxy S20 range have slightly curved displays, although the new Galaxy S20 F has a flat panel. Based on this tweet, it looks like FE was the first indicator of a new direction for Samsung, as both the S21 and S21 Plus will also get flat displays, according to the report.
Curved screens are especially useful for fitting into users’ hands on larger phones. For this reason it is possible that the IU S21 Ultra claims – the largest phone in the series with the Galaxy S20 Ultra as expected – will keep its curved performance.
Samsung “Blade Bezels” patent
On a related note, we have a new patent from Samsung for the “blade bezels” obtained by Letsgo Digital. This detail has some very thin but flat edges for the smartphone display, presented on behalf of digital artist Snoren LGD.
At first glance, the design looks reminiscent of the newly unveiled iPhone 12, which has also reduced its bezel by going for a flat-side design. However, there is no camera to see my excellent or punch-hole.
There have been several rumors of upcoming phones with under-display selfie cameras. It’s also a special rumor for the Galaxy S21, and theoretically means you don’t have to sacrifice screen space or quality to fit in a front-facing camera. However, that is a difficult engineering challenge to achieve, and we’ve seen leaks pointing to Samsung for not being able to stretch the under-display camera for the S21 lineup.
Samsung is set to release its Galaxy S series phones in February each year. We may see that change this year, however, according to the latest rumors we will probably see the S21 Admission in January instead.
