The rush is his nightly dose of updates to the Ohio state football recruiting route, which controls the latest in commitments and goals across the country.
Flipping another DB, continuing the Georgia pipeline
By officially receiving the change from cornerback Jordan Hancock to Clemson on Sunday, the Buckeyes have managed another steal from a defensive draft (and substantially offset the loss of Devonta Smith’s move to Alabama).
Recently Ryan Watts’ first trade from Oklahoma in the 2020 class. Then Jantzen Dunn’s trade from Oklahoma in the 2021 class in that wild one-hour period in April. And now they’ve accomplished a gigantic turnaround by stealing Hancock from Clemson.
With Kerry Coombs back in the photo, it really looks like if the Buckeyes want a strong enough defense, especially a cornerback, they are going to catch him. That’s what happens when you’ve helped put seven cornerbacks in the first round of the NFL draft with another (Shaun Wade) who headed there early enough.
And speaking of Coombs, who played a decisive role in Hancock’s change, he is now at n. # 2 on the 247Sports Recruiter Ranking for the Class of 2021. He has six credited recruits with an average player rating of 93.60 points, though Jaylen Johnson belongs more to Al Washington, the assistant who recruited Johnson before Coombs returned to Columbus. .
Tony Alford is number 3 on that list, and Brian Hartline appears at number 9 after finishing first in the 2020 class. Emeka Egbuka’s landing would likely push Hartline to the top five for the second consecutive cycle. Larry Johnson (12) and Washington (19) are also among the top 20 recruiters for the 2021 class.
The Buckeyes now have 12 overall prospects among the 100 best committed of their 19 total commitments. Here’s how it compares to the other top recruiting classes for 2021:
one) Ohio State (12)
two) Clemson (7)
3) Alabama (6)
4) LSU (5)
5) Oklahoma (4)
5) Oregon (4)
7) Georgia (3)
7) North Carolina (3)
7) Texas (3)

If the Buckeyes can get their last four priority goals in JT Tuimoloau (2), Egbuka (8), Derrick Davis Jr. (53), and Tywone Malone (54), obviously it’s a huge task, they would have 12 commits currently among the top 55. And that doesn’t include Tristan Leigh (12), who has become his primary uncommitted offensive target following JC Latham’s engagement with Alabama.
As for where the Buckeyes are in their defensive recruiting, the coaching staff has already approached their current commitments to inform them that their position in the class has not changed due to Hancock’s commitment. There is an outside possibility that could change if Davis were to commit, as we have been told multiple times that the Buckeyes’ plans are to bring him in as a safe place and not as an outside linebacker.
But for now, the commitment of all of the defenders is solid, and we don’t expect them to be seduced by the pitches from other competing schools that the Ohio State has too many defenders in the class.

Some other quick facts about Hancock’s engagement, courtesy of Eleven warriorsMatt Gutridge:
-
Help the Buckeyes continue their pipeline in Georgia, as Hancock is the first state player to commit to the Buckeyes’ 2021 class and is now the third Suwanee player to commit to the state of Ohio, joining Cameron Heyward and Bradley Roby.
-
Hancock will be the 38th Peach State player to join an Ohio State roster. On the 2020 list are Justin Fields, Harry Miller, Steele Chambers, Antwuan Jackson, and Trey Sermon.
-
Hancock’s commitment gives the Buckeyes the 12th highest class compared to the classes that have finished at No. 1 in the country since 2001.
Mirco is now a three star, Adeleye can win the fifth star again
Both the 2021 and 2022 class saw rankings changes this week, including the debut of the 2022 Composite Rankings, which features Ohio State debuting at n. ° 2 as a class with three assignments among the first 150.
While there were no major updates to any commitments or goals for 2021, one we didn’t mention was bettor Jesse Mirco.
Mirco now has a star rating, as it is listed as a three-star prospect ranked # 1,868 overall, # 3 on the scoreboard, and # 2 in Australia. He is behind only bettor West Bloomfield (Mich.) And Wolverines commit Tommy Doman and bettor ProKick Australia and Texas commit Isaac Pearson in the positional ranking. Pearson is the only Australian ranked ahead of Mirco. (All of the top Australian players featured in the ranking are punters committed to Division I programs.)
Also, watch for Buckeye defensive end Tunmise Adeleye to become a five-star prospect. With Tony Grimes set to be eliminated from the 2021 ranking with his reclassification to the 2020 class, Adeleye, who is ranked 31st, is online to move to the top 30 and take that coveted fifth star. Adeleye was a five-star prospect until a slight drop in February. That would give Ohio State five commitments from 2021 classified as five-star prospects.
Clemons records a 4.37
Oregon four-star wide receiver Darrius Clemons is a player Ohio State has been interested in for a while, though he hasn’t received an offer from Buckeyes yet, and it doesn’t appear to be imminent.
But the 6-foot-3, 195-pound receiver is still a limiting prospect in the top 150, worth keeping an eye on, and that’s still true after his performance at The MVP Combine in Oregon. Clemons was timed on the 40-yard dash laser timed at a time of 4.37 seconds.

That speed and overall performance at camp were good enough for Clemons, Oregon’s top-ranked player in 2022, to get some interest from both Alabama and Clemson, as the two shows are expected to contact the phone over the phone. receiver of the best 20. sometime this week.
Clemons has 20 offers, including those from Michigan, Oregon, Penn State and Stanford.
