LONDON, July 22 (Reuters) – The Rolling Stones released a previously lost song “Scarlet” on Wednesday, recorded at guitarist Ronnie Wood’s home in 1974 and featuring Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page.
The song combines Mick Jagger’s boastful voice with richly textured guitars and is described in a statement as “as contagious and obscene as everything the band cut in this holy era, a holy grail for any devotee of the Stones.”
The long-lost song also features Blind Faith’s Rick Grech on bass.
“I remember I first interfered with Jimmy and Keith in Ronnie [Wood’s] Basement studio. It was a great session, “said Jagger.
“It’s a very rare appearance for me outside of Led Zeppelin in the 70s,” Page said on his Twitter account, recalling how he had gone to Wood’s house to play some guitar solos.
“I got there early that night and was able to do it right away in a few takes. It was fine with me and I quit.”
Page added that Jagger had recently contacted him and was able to listen to the finished version.
“It sounded great and really solid.”
The Rolling Stones in April released a new song “Living in a Ghost Town”, recorded in part during the coronavirus blockade.
That song, “Scarlet” and two other unreleased songs will appear on a new multi-format version of Stone’s 1973 album “Goats Head Soup” in September. (Written by Alexandra Hudson; Edited by Angus MacSwan)
