Much has changed in WWE regarding the security measures being implemented to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Masks are now mandatory in tapings, and failure to use one will result in a fine. Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has now reported that the protocol changes came after a RAW Superstar voiced his concerns to Vince McMahon.
A RAW Superstar, whose name has not been released, was reported to have returned to the tapes on tapes last week after a short break and approached Vince McMahon regarding current security measures.
The WWE Superstar reportedly expressed genuine concern about measures that are not taken seriously enough, including social distancing and wearing masks.
WWE has made several changes to ease backstage tension
Vince McMahon noted the concerns and made the mask rule mandatory along with a fine imposed on those who do not comply with the decree.
Another talent also told Fightful that the reason Vince McMahon didn’t enforce the rule earlier was because he is always in his office during the recordings and doesn’t see first hand whether or not the rules and regulations are followed. It was added that Vince McMahon occasionally appears in Gorilla Position.
The report also indicated that the company had made several changes in the past few weeks to ease tensions for talents and behind-the-scenes employees. One change was to make the RAW and SmackDown recordings separately, which led to fewer people being present at the shows.
The changes were found to have helped ease the minds of some people who were concerned about the COVID-19 situation.
More than 30 positive cases have been reported in WWE in the past few weeks. Kayla Braxton, Renee Young, Adam Pearce and Jamie Noble are the only company employees who publicly confirmed their positive results. Talents are reportedly told not to discuss the online testing procedure, and several talents were kept out of WWE TV last week for precautionary reasons.
Despite the testing circumstances, WWE has marked a grueling recording schedule through SummerSlam, and the company intends to go full steam ahead to the biggest PPV of the summer.
