The Iranian diplomat has gone on trial for taking part in a planned terrorist attack on a rally in Belgium where Rudy Giulia was the keynote speaker.

Asadullah Assad, a former Vienna-based diplomat, faces up to life in prison if convicted.

According to prosecutors, the target of the attack was a rally in Villepinte, France, on June 30, 2018, organized by the National Council of Resistance (NRI), the political arm of Iran’s People’s Mujahideen or Mujahideen. E-Khalk (MEK).

The group is considered a terrorist organization and arch-enemy by Iran. MEK leader Maryam Rajavi was the main target of the attack, the court heard.

At the last minute, in an international police operation, on the day of the rally, on the outskirts of Brussels, the Belgian couple was stopped by people of Iranian descent. They claim to be on driving leave.

The BBC added that Amir Sadouni and Nasimah Nami met at the Pizza Hut with Iranian diplomat Assad, who is serving as the third adviser at the country’s embassy in Vienna, Austria. Following Mossad’s instructions, an official from Israel’s intelligence agency, Belgian Plaincloths, saw Assad hand over a package containing powerful explosives, the New York Times reported.

The pair denied knowing they had been handed the bomb. In an ABC News report, Nami said he thought it contained fireworks.

The Belgian bomb disposal unit said it found 550 grams of triacitone tripper oxide (TATP) ready to be used in the couple’s Mercedes, “wrapped in plastic and hidden in the lining of a vanity case,” according to the Washington Post.

ABC News added that they also found Nama’s small bag in Asadi’s car with the instruction to use the bomb and a digital remote trigger in Nama’s small bag.

If the powerful bomb had exploded, it could have hit a crowd of 25,000 and other prominent public figures, including the former speaker of the US House of Representatives, many UK MPs, Newt Gingrich.

TATP was used when suicide bombers killed 32 people in a 2016 Brussels subway and airport attack.

A report in France 24 states that Assad is also accused of paying Rs 14,000 to the couple and was arrested on July 1, 2018 during a trip to Germany, where he has no immunity from legal action.

Belgium’s state security service (VSSE) believes it worked for Iran’s Section 312, the director general’s office for internal security, which is on the EU’s list of terrorist organizations, The New York Times reported.

He recruited the couple to get information about the Iranian opponent and worked with a fourth suspect, Mehrdad Arefani, who is an Iranian poet and Brussels resident, A.P.

The Washington Post reports that text messages and emails between the four suspects revealed that they were using code to communicate and identify the explosive device as ‘PlayStation 4’.

All of these have been charged with terrorist attack and attempted terrorist group activity and could face life in prison.

The hearing began yesterday, with a verdict expected early next year.

Asadi, who claims to have diplomatic immunity, was not in the dock.

According to France24, Ran has denied any involvement in the attack.

MEK leader Rajavi said Assad had received his orders from Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, but did not provide any evidence, according to the AP.

MEK U.S. And were on the EU’s terrorism list until 2012. After condemning the violence, he appointed Western politicians in his favor, the APA reported. According to the BBC, he supports Donald Trump’s US sanctions against him, gaining powerful allies like Rudy Giuliani.
