The Louisiana government acknowledged this week that thousands of jobless residents are being paid more in unemployment benefits because of a technical problem and were instructed to return the money to Baton Rouge.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) said in a statement Thursday that about 7,600 unemployment insurance overpayment notices had been issued earlier this month and was working with its vendors to rectify the issue.

The LWC is working to send “notices of adjustment” to the affected people so that they have no money owed to the state government.

“We apologize for any inconvenience,” the LWC said, adding that it would continue to work to resolve any outstanding issues.

The LWC told the Associated Press that notices had been sent to more than 4,300 people. He has set up an email account dedicated to asking government questions for people facing problems.

The LWC did not immediately respond to a request for comment by Hill.
