The Prince Estate partnered with Warner Records to release the unreleased song “I Never Never Take The Place Of Your Man (Version 1979)” today (July 16).
The song will be featured in the upcoming expanded reissue of the pop star’s iconic ninth album. Sign o ‘the Times this autumn. Prince originally recorded the song, which is voiced nine times, in Studio A at Hollywood Sound Recorders on May 23, 1979 during sessions for his second self-titled album in 1979. He retrieved it from the vault and re-recorded it in 1986. with a guitar solo and an updated sound that made it to the 1987 album, which peaked at number 6 on the Billboard 200.

“I Could Never Take Your Man’s Place (1979 Release)” is the oldest recording of the deluxe reissue of Signature o ‘the Times, which is available for pre-order here before it officially arrives on September 25. The remastered album features 62 more unreleased tracks and a two-hour concert video filmed at his private Pahasley Park park in Chanhassen, Minnesota, on December 31, 1987.
