On September 14, an asteroid with more than two commercial football fields will make a safe flight across the vast Earth, according to NASA’s Center-Near-Earth ject budget studies.
The space rock, known as Asteroid 2020 QL2, is more than 120 meters (393 feet) in diameter, the government agency noted. It will fly past the Earth at speeds of about 24,000 miles per hour and come at a distance of 4.2 million miles.
By comparison, the Moon is 238,900 miles from Earth.
Says Naka, the last flight asteroid before election day.
Asteroid 2020 QL2 is considered “potentially dangerous” by NASA given its size and proximity to Earth, although it has almost no chance of hitting the planet next week.
“Potentially Dangerous” NEO is defined as space objects objects that fall within 0.05 astronomical units (6.6 million miles) and measure more than 606060 feet in diameter, according to NASA. Planetary.R.G. According to a 2018 report put together by, there are more than 18,000 SEOs.
In August, a basketball court-sized asteroid flew “at least” 45,000 miles from Earth, according to NASA’s Asteroid Watch.
In August Gust, a pickup truck-sized planet flew 2,000 miles from Earth, the closest recorded so far. It missed until after it flew off the planet by NASA.
Mile-long asteroids should be life-threatening for millions of years if they set an example: Scientists
NASA unveiled a 20-page plan in 2018 that details what steps the U.S. should take to better prepare for SEOs such as asteroids and comets within 30 million miles of Earth.
A recent survey has shown that Americans prefer a space program that focuses on potential asteroid effects on sending humans back to the moon or to Mars.
NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstein said in April 2019 that the asteroid strike was not to be taken lightly and that Earth was probably the biggest threat to Earth.
