MADISON, Wisconsin. About 7.5% of Wisconsin’s new COVID-19 tests tested positive Monday, according to new data from the state Department of Health Services.
Although that percentage has dropped from 10.1% on Sunday, the number of tests has remained almost the same. Of the 6,127 tests conducted in the past 24 hours, state and county health officials said 741 of those tests were positive. That number is also a decrease from Sunday’s 769 new cases.
Record numbers were released last week for three days in a row, and as many as 926 new cases were reported Saturday.
According to combined data from state and county health departments, the total number of confirmed cases has reached 37,189. At least 7,447, or about 20% of positive cases remain active, while 26 more people were hospitalized on Monday.
Ozaukee County reported an additional death on the county’s COVID-19 dashboard, putting the state’s death toll at 821.
The new Dane County mask mandate went into effect Monday morning. The mandate requires that all persons over the age of 5 must wear a mask in any enclosed space other than their home. Those who do not comply may face a $ 376 fine in Madison, or $ 263.50 out of town.
