Former Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Moore is finalizing a deal to become the new president of the Philadelphia 76ers of basketball operations, sources told ESPN.
A formal announcement is expected this week, sources said.
General manager Elton Brand is expected to remain in his current position, and is in favor of hiring new coach Doc Reverse, sources said. Rivers and More have a long history and a strong relationship.
Two years before signing an extension with the Rockets, Morey set a 76-year ownership goal, and two years ago he turned down the opportunity to run the team.
After eliminating Houston from the league’s Orlando resume, Moore approached owner Tilman Frittta with the idea of quitting the job and worked peacefully through an exit agreement to end his 13 seasons of running the franchise’s basketball operations.
Discussions with the Sixers began immediately, sources said, and moving forward this week, Moore went on a trip to Philadelphia to meet with the owner.
