22 years have passed since the director Nancy Meyers remade the classic Disney movie The parent trap. The cast of the beloved 1998 comedy hasn’t reunited since the movie’s premiere, but since everyone has so much free time in the era of the coronavirus pandemic, reporter Katie Couric He was able to gather all the main cast members for a small virtual meeting.
Lindsey Lohan, Dennis Quaid, Elaine Hendrix, Lisa Ann Walterand even Simon Kunz got back together with the writer / producer Charles Shyer and director Nancy Meyers for a nostalgic look at the movie, including a look at some of the early screen tests and a tribute to the cast member who was unable to be with them for the reunion.
The Parent Trap Meeting
Dennis Quaid recalled meeting Lindsey Lohan for the first time when they did screen tests for The parent trap, and immediately thought that she was one of the most talented actresses he had ever worked with. Looking back at the movie clips, you can’t deny the authenticity and charm Lohan brought to the role when he was just 11 years old. It makes me wish she wasn’t caught on the dark side of fame, because she could still be working regularly today, and could easily have been one of the best actresses of her generation.
As for Simon Kunz, who plays Butler Martin, he was originally auditioning for a much smaller role in the movie where he would have had only one line as a photographer in the bridal shop scene. But Nancy Meyers and Charles Shyer saw something in him that made them think it might be right for the role of Martin.
Nancy Meyers explained one of the unique challenges that The parent trap Featured With Lindsey Lohan playing Annie and Hallie in the movie instead of having real twins in the roles, Lohan had to act against herself on set. This meant that Meyers had to choose the takes for him to play on the spot. Usually that’s something you can play around with in the editing room, but in this case, there isn’t much wiggle room as they needed Lohan’s timed reactions for a specific take. Considering that this was done seamlessly in 1998, it’s a pretty impressive technical achievement, especially when you remember that this was the first movie directed by Nancy Meyers.
Unfortunately, the meeting is missing a key part of the cast. Natasha Richardson, who plays the mother of the twins, passed away in 2009. But the cast fondly remembers her and remembers the joy of working with her so many years ago.
