The owner of a Nebraska bar accused of shooting and murder has taken his own life

The owner of a Nebraska strip accused the protester, James Scarlock, 22, of fatal shooting, his attorney said Sunday.

At 12:20 p.m., Hillsboro Police Department officials responded to the 300 block of South East Ninth Avenue when a body was found outside the medical clinic, police said. The body was identified as Jack Gardner, the owner of the bar who was facing multiple charges in connection with the May 30 shooting of Spurlock, the WWOT reported.

A warrant for Gaurav’s arrest was issued last week, in which he received terrorist threats last week in connection with murder, use of a deadly weapon, committing a crime, attempted a first-degree attack, and death in a May 30, Spurlock shooting.

Prior to the indictment, Gardner, a veteran of the Iraq war, told KTV Newswatch: “It’s stressful. I’m more worried now than when I was in Iraq. I lived from late 2000 to late 2004. All train by 9/11. I was in Haiti during the 2003 invasion and in 2004 to spread civil unrest.

Gardner did not return after his arrest warrant was issued. His attorney, Stu Dornan, said Gardner left Omaha and went to California after the shooting because he was receiving death threats. He said Gardner is planning to return to Omaha on Sunday evening and go inside himself.

Doran said she was working in her client’s self-defense the day she shot Spurlock outside Gardner’s hive bar. That night, protests erupted in the Old Market.

Dornan said last week the accused “Gardner” was shocked and “really shaken.”

The exact circumstances of Garner’s death are unclear. His lawyers said his death was “at his own hands.”
