The crown has a new – and definitive – Princess Diana: Elizabeth Debicki will play the late Royal in the last two seasons of the show, which will include her divorce from Prince Charles and until her death in 1997. The Netflix show, which filmed on the fourth season before the pandemic, will feature newcomer Emma Corrin as a younger Diana in season four, which will cover the late ’70s to early’ 90s (it’s set to this coming out this fall, and although there is no trailer yet, some set photos will be leaked).
Debicki is an extremely tall Australian actress, best known for her role as Jordan Baker in Baz Luhrmann’s De Great Gatsby, and also stars in Tenet, which Christopher Nolan thinks he’ll release in theaters later this month. “The spirit of Princess Diana, her words and her actions, live in the hearts of so many,” said Debicki in a message shared on the show’s Twitter page. “It’s my real privilege and honor to be a part of this masterful series that has absolutely hooked me on episode one.”
Debicki is the latest addition to a staggering cast of prestigious British actors who will be completing the series, which will follow the British royals until the early 2000s (unfortunately we will not see Meghan and Harry’s story play out, on this show at least). Also starring in the show’s fifth season are Imelda Staunton (aka Dolores Umbridge), who will replace Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, and Leslie Manville, who will introduce Princess Margaret of Helena Bonham Carter. Gillian Anderson is set to play Margaret Thatcher, and Jonathan Pryce will replace Tobias Menzies and his jawline as Prince Philip.
