To kick off its official Comic-Con @ Home panel today, the delay of the 20th century (and seemingly cursed) The new mutants he scoffed at himself before putting together his cast. The video began showing the film’s original release date of April 13, 2018 before being struck through with a line. All other film release dates appeared and were canceled, including its two 2019 dates and its April 2020 date. Then a series of tweets appeared about the various delays with highlights such as “The red carpet will double as the reunion of 10-year cast “and” Did we all … hallucinate collectively? The new mutants? “
At the end of the video, the film’s current release date appeared on screen, emphatically declaring that the film will hit “theaters on August 28, 2020.” After the text, another text bubble appears on the screen that says “Let’s cross our fingers.” You can view the clip in the player above along with the full panel from this year’s Digital Comic-Con event.
“There are fans who have stolen every frame from all the trailers to try to put together the movie,” director Josh Boone said during the panel. “What has been surprising … All I know is that when it is about to open again, it will be as if there is an asteroid hitting Earth.”
The panel concluded with news of an advanced screening of the film prior to its theatrical release, to which Boone responded with “Wear a mask.” Those interested in participating in this giveaway just have to tweet the hashtags “#NewMutantsComicComicAtHome” and “#NewMutantsScreeningSweepstakes” to have the opportunity to participate. Boone reserved this ad with a smile and added, “You may finally see it.”
Despite the tongue-in-cheek prank to start the panel, it’s unclear if The New Mutants will be released in theaters on August 28. During the middle of the panel, The Walt Disney Company announced a number of major changes to its release schedule. with delays for three Star Wars movies, the four Avatar sequels, and many other movies. Perhaps the most notable change was that the live-action remake of Mulan It has been completely removed from its release schedule and its release date of August 21, 2020 has been withdrawn. This change does not really bode well for The new mutants, which is still scheduled to arrive a week later.
Even if The new mutants Maintains that release date, there may not be a majority of theaters open to even play the movie, as some networks have already said they are delaying the reopening after Christopher Nolan Beginning moved from its release date of August 14. Check back here for the next update on The new mutants‘release date, which will certainly come soon.
