The punishment includes a $ 1.1 million fine and a loss to the 2021 third-round draft pick, the source said. The Patriots’ television crews also cannot fire any games and senior club officials will have to undergo the required league operation training, according to the source.
The team said in a statement released in December that it acknowledged that the production team “unknowingly violated league policy by filming the field and press box margin.”
In addition to the punishment imposed, David Mondillo, supervising producer on the Patriots’ in-house production team, has been removed from all NFL facilities until further notice. He was previously suspended by the team during the investigation and was later dismissed.
Mondillo released a statement in December 2019 saying he was filming a segment after a professional scout throughout his week to show the public what his work entails. In the statement, Mondillo said he had gone to the bathroom and returned to the bench to find out that his cameraman told him to stop shooting for someone in the NFL.
“We stopped shooting immediately when we were asked to do so and fully cooperated. We had a detailed exchange on who we were and why we were there and what they wanted us to do. I gave the Sony SXS card to NFL security and we complied with their asked, packed up and went home, “said Mondillo. “I had no intention of providing images to soccer operations, I did not provide any images and they never asked me to.”
CNN has reached out to the Patriots for comment.
