The Most Popular Selena Gomez Songs About The Weeknd

Pop star Selena Gomez is known for two public relations with other musicians. The one most cited with Justin Bieber, which lasted several years, is the most cited. However, she also dated Abel Tesfaye, also known as the singer The Weeknd.

Although Gomez and Tesfaye weren’t together for long, they made quite a stir with their romance, attending industry events as a couple. And like any composer, they wrote tracks on each other. Here are the three most popular songs Gomez wrote about Tesfaye, based on the time on the Billboard Hot 100 and iTunes sales.

‘Wolves’

“Wolves” was an independent single that was released by Gomez’s Interscope Records in October 2017. Gomez is cited as a co-writer and is the voice of the song, in which she collaborated with EDM producer and DJ Marshmello. The song peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, spending 23 weeks on the chart. It also reached number 1 on iTunes.

The song came out in the summer of 2017 when Gomez and Tesfaye were dating. The lyrics show how to try to regain a feeling you had with someone and how she will continue to long for this person. In an interview with Zane Lowe for Beats1 (as shared on Twitter), she said that when she was working on the song, “it was also going through things, so it reflects everything.”

Gomez and Tesfaye ended just as the song was released. Reports that came out speculated that although they had been seen together recently, their busy schedules made the nature of their relationship intermittent.

‘Bad liar’

“Bad Liar” was another Gomez single in 2017 that was released independently from an album. The singer provided the lead vocals and is credited as a songwriter on the track. “Bad Liar” peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, spending 14 weeks on the chart. It reached number 2 on iTunes.

In the song, Gomez sings about trying to cover up someone’s infatuation, singing, in the post-chorus, “With my feelings on fire / I guess I’m a bad liar.” When the song was released, Gomez and Tesfaye had just officially released their relationship at the Met Gala.

Speaking to Power 96.5 FM, Gomez said the song “tells a kind of story of that feeling when you’re obsessed with someone, when you’re in the ‘honeymoon phase’, I like to say.” It also indicates that he is speaking explicitly about Tesfaye, saying, “This is what I am feeling at this exact moment.”

Memory’

“Souvenir” is one of Gomez’s three bonus songs on the deluxe edition of his 2020 album Rare. Because she did not release it as a single, she was not eligible for the Billboard Hot 100 list. However, she released a video for the lyrics (above). It reached number 5 on iTunes.

On the track, Gómez sings about a lover and specific moments in their relationship. Drop names of places where he and Tesfaye were seen during their time together, such as the Sunset Tower hotel in Hollywood and Greenwich Village in New York City. While Gomez hasn’t said anything specific about the song, fans are pretty convinced of these details.
