Developer Hopoo Games has cooked up a surprise for those expecting the official launch Risk of rain 2. The game leaves Steam’s Early Access program today, and with version 1.0 going live, players will be able to visit the Moon – tackle the final level and fight the final boss. Here is our guide to help you.
Note: See us for more information Risk of rain 2 official review, as well as our manuals and features. Oh, and be warned that this particular guide contains spoilers.
Risk of rain 2: How to get to the moon
To reach Risk of rain 2The last level, we must first go to Sky Meadow. The fifth stage in the game, let’s just enter your codes to enter Bulwark’s Ambry and unlock new Artifacts – and, heeck, you can still do that. However, our goal is to search for a specific object: a Primordial Teleporter.
Unlike the regular teleporters of the game with the ‘horns’, the Primordial Teleporter is surrounded by a ring of claw-like rock formations. From a distance, it actually looks like Iron Man’s Arc Reactor.
Note: You can interact with this object before activating it, so you can either start a new loop (return to stage 1) or continue to the moon level. Alternatively, if you have found a Newt Altar, you can issue a Lunar Coin, defeat the boss of the level and go to the Bazaar Between Time instead of using the teleporter.
Once you activate the Primordial Teleporter, be prepared for the boss of the Sky Meadow level (including all the extras when you start the Challenge of the Mountain). Once you have killed him / her, you could go ahead and enter the portal as you feel you are ready.
Explore the moon
The moon in Risk of rain 2 has a few mobs that you will encounter in certain sections. There are blue golems (turret golems) that fire a scattering of pulses. There are also nasty drones that pepper you with dozens of bullets.
The level itself is fairly simple until you encounter a dead end that leads to a steep drip. There are three paths you can take:
(1) Jumping on the floating platforms and immediately passing brings you to the final boss, Mithrix, King of Nothing. We’ll talk about him later.
(2) If you cross the floating platforms to the right, you will find a section that has roughly three or four Lunar Pods.
Feel free to use some of your Lunar Coins here in case you need extra items.
(3) You can go back to the floating platforms and jump all the way to the other side (the left side if you came from the intersection).
Here you will find various intakes with which you can exchange items for unusual and legendary gear. Keep in mind that even if you see the article that is for an exchange, the ones that are taken from you will be completely random. If you have the Artifact of Command active, you can select the gear you pick up to ensure you have an ideal build.
Note: You may need some extra mobility for your characters or certain items, such as the Hopoo Feather, Volcanic Egg, Milky Chrysalis, or Strides of Heresy / Shadowfade to ensure you can return to the main area. Even if you can not reach it and you fall off the map, you will still follow it, provided you have made it further away from this ‘shop’ area.
When you are ready, go straight to the central area. Use one of the launch pads and you will be taken to the Mithrix boss arena.
The final boss: Mithrix, King of Nothing
Risk of rain 2 pulls out all stops. That’s because the final boss, Mithrix, King of Nothing, is a multi-phase encounter. Make sure you are ready for the attacks of this man as they are deadly and the fight itself can last for a while if you have subpar together.
Phase 1: Mithrix
HP: 20,300
Mithrix has the tendency to raze your position, and happily yell away with his giant hammer. Those attacks of melee grabbed a punch. He also has some special abilities:
- Hammer Smash – Mithrix has the tendency to raze your position, hitting the ground with his hammer. This attack will remove an enormous chunk of your health, so make sure you do not avoid it.
- Down the Middle – Periodically, Mithrix will jump to the center of the arena. He will then fire several beams on your way as he walks towards you. This is usually followed by, you know, an attack or a Hammer Smash.
Phase 2: Lunar Chimera
HP: 46,080
The Lunar Chimera phase of this boss fight is actually quite different. Mithrix will disappear and he will be replaced by various turret golems and drones (the same mobs you fought while trying to make your way here). Any mob that kills you will destroy part of the health of the Lunar Chimera.
If you place yourself at the outer ring of the arena (do not worry, you can not fall or be pushed off), the turret waves can sometimes sting. Since they try to stay away from you, they tend to cluster under the slope. The drones are worse now, because there are about five of them, and they’ll burn you with their guns.
Phase 3: Mithrix with torre golems
HP: 26,130
This will be your ultimate test. Mithrix now has more HP compared to his first phase, and he will summon several turret spells to irritate you. Again, if you stick to the outer ring, you can easily avoid the barriers of these mobs.
However, as far as Mithrix is concerned, he will send you to the limit. The ability of Hammer Smash now emits a stronger shock wave, and flames will also erupt from the ground.
Worse, once the boss goes to the middle, he will also throw multiple rays of blue flame spinning round. You will need to move (depending on the direction of the rays) side roads to avoid getting hit.
Phase 4: Mithrix the collector
HP: 15,330
‘The Collector’ is just a nickname I came up with for this phase of the boss fight. Once Mithrix is back to the center, he will take away almost all of your items and battle himself.
The goal here is to continue to deal damage to him. As you DPSing its health bar down, your lost items will magically flow back to you. Play it safe and play smart, and you should be done fast enough.
The escape
Now that you’ve beaten Risk of rain 2the last boss, it’s time to relax… or not. Looks like there’s one more thing left to do: escape the damn moon before it explodes!
There’s a four minute self-destruct sequence here, and you’ll have to take the high tail from Mithrix’s arena, to the starting area, across the floating platforms, and past the steep paths. Oh, but that’s not all, some creepy shadows will try to distract you and prevent you from running. In addition, flames will erupt along the ground, crossing as you progress.
If you take it all the way to the open area (past the castle where you first set foot on the moon), you will place your ship. Take a moment and enjoy the end credits.
Go ahead and check your characters now, because you just unlocked the captain. Without a doubt, it is an absolute powerhouse in multiplayer runes. Do not forget to contact us Risk of rain 2 Captain guidance if you need help with the skills and load-outs.
