The Mets ‘bats come through again in Marlins’ takedown

Although the Mets’ starting rotation is in taters, the misdemeanor came to life in two straight victories in Miami.

After closing out four homers in Monday’s win, the Mets beat three more in an 8-3 victory over the Marlins on Tuesday.

The day began with another injury to a starter, this time for David Peterson, who was scheduled for Tuesday but woke up with his shoulder as “strange”, according to manager Luis Rojas. Corey Oswalt came off the taxi team to take Peterson’s place, combining three relievers to throw 3 ² / ₃ shutout innings before Edwin Diaz’s fight resumed in the ninth.

Diaz, coming off six straight scoreless outings, allowed a run on three straight hits before ending the game with three consecutive strikeouts.

“We feel like we have a lot of talented guys who can step into this role and we just have to finish these games,” Dom Smith said before the game. ‘Just keep fighting. We do not want to lose a beat here. We want to continue the momentum and try to help our pitchers. ”

They did it again Tuesday, sparked by three RBIs from Amed Rosario and three hits from Brandon Nimmo.

A day after their bullets were charged after Robert Gsellman’s brief outing on Monday, the Mets relied on Oswalt, making his first start since 2018. The 26-year-old ticked well enough to get into the fifth inning, and the Mets’ bollepeal good again.

The lineup took some pressure off as Nimmo got the Mets on the board in the top of the third with a two-out solo homer to right center.

The Mets added a few runs in the fourth, the first with a leadoff blast by JD Davis. Michael Conforto ran and stepped up to second on a single by Pete Alonso.

Smith continued his hot stretch through with an opposite field, ground double to drive into Conforto and make it 3-0.

The Mets failed to add to their lead when Rosario grounded hard on the third and Tomas Nido flew to deep center.

The Marlins came back into the game when Oswalt faded into the bottom of the inning.

Oswalt took nine straight between Jesus Aguilar’s leadoff single and a Matt Joyce double with one out in the fourth.

Aguilar followed up with another double in line to score Joyce and make it 3-1. After Corey Dickerson came out, Brian placed Anderson’s single Aguilar to cut the Mets’ lead after a run. Oswalt got into further trouble when he hit Francisco Cervelli, but then Logan Forsythe got to the ground to finish the inning.

The Mets ruined another scoring opportunity in the fifth, when Nimmo led by a three-pointer, but switch pitcher Pat Venditte strangled him by dismissing McNeil, Davis and Conforto.

Justin Wilson replaced Oswalt with one out in the bottom of the inning and Magneuris Sierra on second, but the lefty got the next two fighters. Wilson then passed to Jared Hughes in sixth place, and Hughes came through that inning and the seventh without allowing a run.

Rosario’s leadoff homer in the seventh gave the Mets a 4-2 lead, and he added a two-run single in the eighth as the Mets continued the game with four more runs.

‘Once again, it’s another challenging thing for us this season with the start of pitching,’ ‘Rojas said before the game. “But I will say it again, the depth has helped us to jump back and get on with our plan.”
