The Mets are not ruling out Tim Tebow for the group of players

The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on baseball.

Tim Tebow’s MLB aspirations remain intact.

As the teams prepare their rosters for training camps ahead of the 60-game season set for the end of July, Tebow is a candidate to join the New York Mets player pool. Ask General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen.

“We still have 10 places that we have not made a final determination on who we will bring,” Van Wagenen said in a video call with reporters on Monday, according to Syracuse.com. “He was in camp with us early in camp last spring. He was sent to the minor league camp a couple of weeks later.

“But he, like many of the other players who were in spring training for us, will be considered to bring back. But we haven’t made those final decisions.”

What is a group of players?

The Mets have determined 50 of the 60 players who made the cut for their group of players from training camp. Players who make the cut will attend camp and be available to MLB teams throughout the season rather than operating in the minor leagues. With 10 points remaining, Tebow remains a consideration.

Does this mean that Tebow has a chance to appear in the New York Mets uniform sometime this season? It is not probable.

Tebow’s minor league performance

The Mets have held the Heisman Trophy winner and the fall of the NFL along with their ability to attract media and fan attention in their minor league system since 2017.

During that time, he hit .223 with 18 home runs and 107 RBIs over the course of 1,048 plate appearances. Most recently, he hit .163 with four home runs and 19 RBIs in a 2019 season with the Mets’ AAA affiliate in Syracuse. He is 32 years old.

None of this resembles anything like a legitimate MLB perspective. But Tebow is good for business. So there is no reason for Van Wagenen to close the door.
