How would you like a replica of the Statue of Liberty for an acronym for Christmas? Or even better, how could the acronym Christmas be twice the size of Lady Liberty? Then, you’re 2 million miles away from getting what you want.
The asteroid – SD224 – is hurting towards Earth and is ready to fly past Christmas. That space capsule – will travel at speeds of more than 22,000 miles to a few thousand miles. Speed buffs for you, it’s 30 times faster than the speed of sound.
NASA says this is a giant-stupid planet … more than 600 feet long.
What’s crazy here. The asteroid is considered to be the closest object to Earth, yet it will be 8 times farther from Earth than the Moon when it passes.
BTW … SD224 is not alone. There are about 25,000 things on earth in the sky. And, not the first time something has hit, check out this huge pit in Arizona.
Obstacles are definitely on our side … NASA says the threat of a planet-destroying Earth occurs only once in a million years. The question … where are we on that spectrum?
