The mayor says parents knowingly get infected with the coronavirus

A Covid-19 positive student attended class Monday, but his diagnosis was not reported to the school until the next day, Atleboro High School Superintendent David Soyer said in a letter sent to families Tuesday night. Twenty-two students with close contact with an infected person have been notified and told to stay away for 14 days, Sovereign said.

The school did not identify the student and the family.

The mayor of Atlanta, Paul Haroux, and the superintendent were shocked by the incident, the mayor told CNN. The parents told the city’s health department that on Sept. 11, when they found their child’s test to be positive, they thought the child could go to school after being harassed for several days, according to Hirox.

“The parents used a very weak decision, it’s very frustrating,” Harux said. “The school department did everything it had to do.”

Souvier told the families that the incident was not due to a lack of safety protocol. He said the district is in place for prescreening and contact tracing to help reduce the spread of coronavirus, but ultimately there is no way to completely stop the spread in the school.

In a request to parents, Herux asked families to keep their children at home if they tested positive or waiting for coronavirus test results, and to call the school or health department if they have questions.
