The Mauni Church rally is linked to 32 COVID-19 cases


Health officials in Maine have now linked 32 cases of coronavirus to the church and its affiliated school.

The number of cases involving Brooks Pentecostal Church in Waldow County has nearly doubled since Sunday, when Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officials initially said 17 people were infected.

A total of 124 cases of the virus have been reported in Woodland County since March, according to the Portland Press-Herald, including an outbreak at a Belfast retirement home, with 43 confirmed cases and 13 deaths.

Elsewhere in the state, at least 10 cases were reported in August at Calvary Baptist Church in Sanford, according to the newspaper. Calvary Baptist pastor Todd Bell was also officiating at the wedding, which has been linked to nearly 200 cases across the state.

A total of 5,962 cases of the Maine virus and 146 deaths have been reported.

The state has seen an increase of about 34 cases per day on average last week, up from about two cases a week ago and about 29 cases per day last month. Its seven-day average positivity rate stood at 0.49 per cent on Monday, down slightly from 0.5 to 0.6 per cent in recent weeks and is shorter than the nationwide average of about 5 per cent.
