Over the past two weeks, Microsoft has announced a number of RPGs coming to the XB RPX game pass service, including Surprise Octopath Traveler Port, with Yakuza 6, Many Bethesda titles, as well as EA Play have finally reached the game pass for PC. Botch port without any support
First, a little history lesson. The original NIR Auto Tomato port on Steam was (and still is) a best-of-breed bag, with players reporting stuck mouse cursors, choppy puppies, bug resolutions, stuttering, and other issues. Fortunately, shortly after the release, community model Caldine released a Fixed Auto Tomato Resolution, or FAR mode, aimed at fixing these numerous issues. Kaldain made his fans for PC ports at the time using people like Tales B F Bersia Special that Modding framework, and is currently awaiting the next port of NIR Replicant.

However, outside of some news posts urging players to upgrade their graphic card drivers, there has never been a fix. With the release of ‘Game of Thrones Edition’, the refreshment of 2019 did not bring any relief. If you wanted to play NieR mat tomato on Steam, you used FAR mode – that’s how it was and that’s it.
Comes in cums
Last week, Near Auto Tomato also became available on the Micros.ft store, and as part of MicroS.ft’s game pass for PC subscriptions. On the same day, the Polish porting house QLO reported that the port was working on a new port for the year old game. Culock, previously credited to PC ports for the Yakuza series with LOC Military Combat 11 and Dark Souls remaster, could not work on the game’s original Steam release. For the new store version, QLAK supported the new port by increasing the borderless video setting, FidelityFX and HDR support, and UI textures to 4K. Players trying out the new port also reported significantly fewer issues with regard to stutter and four-legged framerates. I’m not sure how many times I’ve heard that the icon on the taskbar doesn’t matter for PC games, as this certainly seems to be the case.
This resulted in a clear result, with Steam Players tying the store page to the store page due to missing support, as better products appeared unannounced many years later. The review was the subject of much controversy before the bombing, with Valve having to step in to declare some of the raids ‘-f-topic’, such as the Borderlands 2 case, when Gearbox announced a period of epic games store exclusivity for Borderlands 3.
So far, Steer’s topic has not been flagged by Near Mat Tomato’s review bomb, and apparently for good reason. A quick view of recent negative reviews read like outright rejection rather than outrage. “I can’t recommend the Steam version when I like this game.” One review lamented, another says “I can’t recommend it in its current state. At this point you don’t really need to install any modes to fix the default frame rate questions.” The third is to draw buyers’ attention to the new Microsoft version with a simple statement: “Don’t buy this version. Get the Gamepass version instead.”

Of course, Near Auto Tomato’s time on the steer means that the current port has been poked and developed over many years, and Caldain himself admits that the new MicroStore store version isn’t particularly appropriate in terms of post-processing effects like blooms and surroundings. Ignore. On top of that, a change in the existing composition and other changes means that when combined with Far Mode, the argument in the Steam version of the game is one to get if you don’t mind tinkering a little. Still, Auto Tomato’s new box works out of the box, and I understand the disappointment that Steam owners have felt the game has patched itself since 2017, only to find that tuning remains to be done.
