Both states had previously lifted their blockades on May 30 except for districts with a large number of cases.
The city of Bangalore, in the state of Karnataka, which had initially lifted the restrictions, entered a one-week shutdown Tuesday through July 22. This occurs after the state of Maharashtra re-established a closure from June 29 to July 31.
India began to reduce blockade restrictions on May 30, but certain states such as West Bengal and Jharkhand continued to have blockade measures and movement restrictions, with the exception of certain essential services.
More than 100 million people in these states have remained under closure restrictions since the end of March.
In the capital New Delhi, where there are no general closure measures, restrictions continue in its “containment zones”, which include more than 600 locations as of Monday, according to the territory’s Department of Revenue.
