The Last of Us Part 2 had the biggest first month of any 2020 game in the United States

The Last of Us Part 2 was the best-selling game of June 2020 and has now become the third best-selling game of the year, the eighth best-selling game of the twelve-month period ending in June, and has the best-selling of dollars in launch month of any 2020 release to date in the US As revealed by Mat Piscatella of The NPD Group, first month sales of The Last of Us Part 2 have outperformed other games like Final Fantasy VII Remake, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Doom Eternal to claim the Mancha top.

The Last of Us Part 2, which also became the best-selling PS4 exclusive with over 4 million copies sold in its first three days, is only following Marvel’s Spider-Man for the biggest month of a game release released by Sony.

Rounding out the top five for June 2020 are Call of Duty: Modern Wafare, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Grand Theft Auto V, and Mortal Kombat 11. Perhaps the most impressive leap, however, was Ring Fit Adventure, which peaked at # 7. after ranking # 835 last month due to stock shortage. Recorded spending in June 2020 on video game hardware, software, accessories, and cards totaled $ 1.2 billion, representing a 26% increase from June 2019.

Persona 4 Golden, which was relaunched on Steam in June 2020, peaked at # 18 for June 2020.

Nintendo Switch was again the best-selling hardware in June 2020, although hardware spending decreased 17% compared to June 2019.
