Just days after “The Kissing Booth 2” debuted on Netflix, the streaming service announced that a third movie in the teen romance franchise is in the works.
And there’s more good news for fans of Elle (Joey King) and Noah (Jacob Elordi): “The Kissing Booth 3” was secretly filmed at the same time as the sequel, so filming is now complete. It is currently in post-production and will premiere on Netflix in 2021. The entire cast, including King, Joel Courtney, Elordi, Taylor Zakhar Perez, and Molly Ringwald, will be returning for follow-up.
“It was the hardest secret to keep,” Courtney said Sunday during a live YouTube event with the cast.
Despite the negative reviews from critics, the series “The Kissing Booth” has been very popular with teenage audiences on Netflix. After the first movie was released in 2018, Netflix reported that it was one of their most viewed original movies that year.
The “Kissing Booth” movies focus on a high school student (King), who falls in love with her best friend’s older brother (Elordi). The third entry follows their unlikely relationship and continues after the events of the second movie, a suspense that leaves the King character dealing with where to attend college.
In his criticism for VarietyCourtney Howard said the sequel had “more redeeming value than its predecessor.”
Although her imaginatively sequel called ‘The Kissing Booth 2’ hits similar emotional rhythms, themes, and touchstones, it offers some refreshing details by giving the heroine more agency in her quest to find happiness, but not enough to justify her endless runtime, “she wrote.
The “Kissing Booth” movies are based on the Beth Reekles book series. Vince Marcello returned to direct “The Kissing Booth 3”, which he wrote with Jay Arnold.
Hollywood deadline first reported the news.
