The Indian man stabbed the rooster after attaching a knife to his leg

An Indian man attached a 3-inch knife to his leg in an illegal cockfight case and was stabbed to death by his own rooster, police said on Sunday.

According to police in Lothunur village in Telangana state, Thangulla Satish (in 45) was stoned to death in Gir last week when he was startled by a bird just ready for a fight.

Police Inspector b. Jeevan said on Sunday that he died on the way to a local hospital.

Police are now searching for more than a dozen others involved in the planning of the fierce cockfight, and warn that they could face up to two years in prison if convicted.

A rooster with photos of the police station being tied to a rope and grabbing grain has survived, going viral on social media locally.

“We may need to take him to court,” Jivan said.

In battles – banned in India in 1960 – two birds will fight with a knife or blade until no one dies or escapes.

Despite the nationwide ban, it remains common in the southern Indian states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, mostly under the supervision of powerful and local politicians with money claims.
