IFXIT has got its hands on Apple Paul’s new M1-powered MBQbook Air and MBKbook Pro, of course its team has ripped off the laptop to find out what’s inside. And, while Air and Pro have set new standards for performance and efficiency, it turns out that this is almost entirely attributed to the M1 chip rather than any particular design changes.
Just get a new MBBook Pro. Here’s this year’s Intel-based model on the left, with the new M1 version on the right:
The internal layout of the two computers is almost identical. Ifixit notes that the M1 model uses exactly the same fan component as its Intel predecessor, for example, which actually draws the functionality of the M1 chip home considering the difference in noise levels between the two computers.
In the meantime, the MB Kabuk Air, too, looks very similar to the Intel version, but together minus the fan. Iffxit expressed little surprise that the design of the Air and Pro didn’t combine much anymore, with computers now using the same processor, but here Apple’s design focus was clear on using the M1 as a drop-in replacement for its existing products.
