The Pixel 4a may have already been delayed multiple times, but Google appears to be making some progress toward launch, evidenced by its move to end Pixel 3a sales.
Android police found the Pixel 3a was ‘Not Available’ on Google’s online store page (although when we checked it it only said ‘Out of Stock’), usually a sign that no more phones are on the way. This was confirmed by a statement by a Google spokesperson to the publication.
“The Google Store has sold through its inventory and completed Pixel 3a sales. For people who are still interested in purchasing Pixel 3a, the product is available from some partners while supplies last,” the statement said.
Previously, Google removed its stock of Pixel 3 phones in April, which made us wonder if it was freeing up space in its warehouses for Pixel 4a phones. But now that the Pixel 3a is no longer manufactured, this is perhaps a clearer sign of readiness for the new budget smartphone.
The Pixel 3a was a great phone, arguably the best overall Pixel phone Google has ever produced. That is why we are so excited to see what has changed for the Pixel 4a, except that the new Pixel budget has yet to appear.
We were expecting a May release for the Pixel 4a, a year after the Pixel 3a first appeared on Google I / O. But there have been several delays, most likely due to the coronavirus pandemic. The latest rumor, through Jon Prosser, is that the Pixel 4a could be announced on July 13. However, the phone won’t launch until October 22.
Google desperately needs to move, because it no longer has this “premium budget” part of the smartphone market for itself. Apple released the iPhone SE (2020) in April with mostly positive reviews, and we expect the OnePlus Nord to appear in a few weeks.
In terms of specs, the Pixel 4a is expected to feature an attractive starting price of $ 349, $ 50 cheaper than the iPhone SE, and possibly $ 150 cheaper than the OnePlus Nord. You can also expect a 5.8-inch OLED display along with a mid-range Snapdragon 730 chipset and 8GB of RAM. We also expect a great shot from the phone’s only rear camera, thanks to Google’s excellent processing software.
However, for the price, you shouldn’t expect 5G connectivity or services like wireless charging for the Pixel 4a. We just need Google to reveal the Pixel 4a so we can see how it officially compares to its rivals.
