The Google Phone application has a function that lets you know WHY a company is calling

It is one thing to know who is calling or if it is likely to be a spam call, but now some Android users on the Google Phone app will know much more about why a particular company bothers to call them.

Google recently updated its phone app to include verified calls, which identify who is calling and also a reason for the call when it comes from certain companies. Google’s support site explains that it will see the company’s logo and name along with a reason for calling, “such as ‘Schedule your Internet facility’ or ‘Your food delivery.'” Suddenly picking up that unknown number isn’t that stressful.

Calls go through Google’s verified call server, so participating companies can share that information with you and perhaps make it more likely that they will actually respond. Companies that don’t share this information obviously won’t be able to give you a good reason why they’re calling unless you answer.

Google turns the setting on by default, but if you like the mystery, you can turn it off. The company assures users that all information on these calls is kept private.

The feature, though limited for now, is a look at how calls from unknown numbers could change in the more connected future.
