The iconic house featured in the beloved sitcom The golden girls It is on sale! According to VarietyThis is the first time in 65 years that the Brentwood, California home has been available for purchase. The sale price? Just under $ 3 million, a pretty hefty number for a house that’s less than 3,000 square feet. It seems that fame comes with a higher selling price.
Fans will recognize the house as the one used outdoors for the NBC series, which ran from 1985 to 1992. On the show, Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan) invites her friends, her widow Rose Nylund (Betty White), and the divorced Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur), to live in the house with her in Florida. Dorothy’s mother, 80, Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty) is also moving after her nursing home burned down.
While the interior shots of The golden girls the house was filmed in a sound studio, Brentwood’s private residence used for outdoors became famous in its own right Brady Bunch home and other real life houses used for outdoor television purposes.

The house contains 3.5 rooms and is described in its style described in the listing as “a tasteful mix of Japanese and Hawaiian plantation styles”. It was built in 1955 by SoCal Edison attorney David Noble Barry III and his wife Margaret Carr Barry, who based the design on a mid-century modern house where David’s father lived in Hawaii. The couple lived in the house until her death in 2017 and 2019. Now it is sold through a trust.
According to VarietyThe house and its grounds are also dotted with unique foliage, as the couple collected exotic plants. The interiors also contrast with the fabulous pinks and blues of the ’80s seen in the show; this is much more than a standard modern mid-century clean-line home than The golden girls lived in.
